Holy Trinity Youth

New Orleans 2009
On July 22-26, the high school aged youth from Holy Trinity joined with youths
from all over the United States for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Americas
Youth Gathering 2009 - "Jesus, Justice, Jazz".
The gathering, held in New Orleans, was a great success and a lot of fun.
Our church youth got to know each other better with all the interactive games
and activities available to them in the New Orleans convention center. Perhaps
the biggest impact on the youth as well as the adults were all the wonderful
speakers that came to share their stories of hope and how one person can make a
difference. They spoke of being leaders and each and every one of us being the
change that we seek. Don't wait for someone else to jump in, get out there and
make the world a better place and show the love of a Christian by our actions
and encouraging others to do the same. Our service project was spending a day
with K-2nd grade students and helping them to read. All of the students were
well behind their reading levels but really took to the Holy Trinity kids once
they got to know each other. It was a wonderful experience the youth and the
chaperones as well. On returning home, those that will be eligible all spoke of
going to the next one..and those that will be too old...already talked of going
as volunteer leaders just so they could attend.

Holy Trinity Middle School Confirmation
|
|
|
|
As children grow through their Middle School years, our Lutheran heritage has
provided a program whereby youth can explore their faith through Word and
Sacrament, identify more deeply with the Christian community, and participate
more fully in its mission.

"We
are not yet what we shall be, but we are growing toward it." - Martin Luther
|
Here at Holy Trinity, our middle school confirmation ministry is carried out
through weekly Sunday School classes, monthly Sunday afternoon confirmation
classes, two retreats, service projects and fellowship events.
In addition, youth are invited to serve as acolytes, help with childcare
in the nursery, and participate in worship music leadership.
Parents are invited and encouraged to take an active part in this
important part of their child's faith formation.
|
|
At the end of their middle school years, these young people have the opportunity
to affirm the vows that their parents made at the time of their baptism.

Middle School Retreats

|
Generally our Holy Trinity
Middle School retreat is held in
November at Mar-Lu-Ridge Retreat Center
in Jefferson, MD.
This retreat is used to build community and delve deeper into our
relationship with God and is an integral part of our confirmation program.
In March, our middle school youth have the opportunity to participate in the
synod - wide middle school retreat, SHEKINAH.
This exciting 3 day event is held at the 4-H center in Front Royal,
Virginia.
